Help For You

Scruffy Tails Humane Society does not fund veterinary care for privately owned animals or animals in other rescues. We realize, all too well, the costs of providing needed or emergency care for your pet, but our financial resources are limited and only can be used on the animals in our care. Below is a listing of local, regional and national organizations which may be able to assist you in this time of need.

If you are in need of financial assistance to keep your pet, please follow the links below to organizations who have put together resource sheets.

Rehome Your Pet

We are proud to be part of Adopt-a-Pet's Rehome program. If you are in need of rehoming your pet and are able to keep them in your home while you find a new owner, Rehome is a great option.

How does Rehome work?

Step 1: Create Your Pet's Profile - Upload information about your pet into your pet's profile that you can manage in your dashboard. Your pet's profile will be loaded onto adopt-a-pet.com to be seen by adopters. You'll use your dashboard to upload documents, review applications, and respond to questions from potential adopters.

Step 2: Review Applications - Adopt-a-Pet will notify you when you receive an application and will help guide you through reviewing these applications.

Step 3: Meet Adopters - After you've reviewed applications, you'll be ready to meet potential adopters. Adopt-a-Pet will guide you through having a safe and effective meeting.

Step 4: Finalize the Adoption - Once you choose an adopter, Adopt-a-Pet will create a personalized adoption agreement for you and the adopter. The adopter will pay an adoption fee that will then be transferred to our organization to help more animals in need.

Thinking of surrendering your pet?

We understand surrendering a pet can be difficult. We encourage you to check through our resources if you are in need of financial or other assistance for your pet. If you are able to keep the animal in your home while looking for a new home, please follow the ReHome link under the Help For You tab.

If you are unable to keep your cat or dog in your home and need to surrender, please contact us by phone at (218) 281-7225. Please note we may have a wait list but we will be able to record you and your pet’s information and contact you once we have availability. We do require a surrender fee that will go towards the cost of care and medical expenses if accepted into our organization.

Surrendering your pet to Scruffy Tails Humane Society.

Scruffy Tails Humane Society knows that surrendering your pet is a very difficult decision, but sometimes - it is the only one to make. If you choose to surrender your pet, you'll be asked to complete a surrender contract. Your signature on this contract represents a permanent decision on your part. This legally binding contract gives full ownership of the animal to Scruffy Tails Humane Society. This allows us to provide veterinary care and down the road, legally adopt out the animal to a new home. Please note: We consider adoptions through our organization to be closed, meaning that we do not reveal the identities of either the surrendering or adopting parties. This ensures your privacy, as well as the privacy of the adopter, will be protected.
